To brothers and chapters located in the following states: ME, CT, MA, NY, DE, OR, IA and MI:
How is your fundraising going to benefit the V Foundation? Is your campus promoting "Going Green?" Why not combine the two with a program that benefits both?
Because your states require a can/bottle deposit, promote Cans Against Cancer and get those nickels and dimes back and get the containers to the recycling plants. Don't think it amounts to much? Check out my donations from last year alone: $16,465!! That was 329,300 soda and beer containers alone. (Mass does not have deposits on water, tea or juice containers) And that was just by myself. Think about what a group of you could do. Spread the word to other fraternities/sororities on campus and you'll be surprised how people want to recycle and donate to cancer research and treatment at the same time. Soon you'll have offices within the university promoting it, and area businesses/office parks can jump on board and donate theirs as well.
I intend on going to the 2010 Convention in New Orleans, and would love to see Delta Chi double the amount we donated last summer. If your chapter goal was $100, consider that I average $300 a week between the college students who donate their containers as well as 25 businesses within 20 miles of Boston. While I currently have the domain name www.CansAgainstCancer.com, I would be willing to pay the domain registration to add a sequential number to it (i.e. CansAgainstCancer2, 3, etc) and you could put that link on your chapter's website. You would have to design your own webpage, and could designate your philantrophy as The V Foundation (or Relay For Life if you participate in those as well).
Any questions? Think about this: if the US could recycle the billions of plastic containers currently in circulation, and we didn't have to make another one, the oil that would be saved would make the US self sufficient and we would not need a drop from any other country. That's how much we waste making new plastic bottles alone.
