My Badge Collection
I have been collecting Delta Chi Badges and related pins for nearly 20 years. I have never been able to photograph the collection to share it until now. The collection is a bit of a passion, and I hope you enjoy it. Before you click on however, a few points I should make:
Where do you find all of these? eBay is a wonderful place. From time to time one of our badges will come up for sale there. I have also tried to visit antique shops and pawn shops wherever my travels take me, and find them everywhere.
Why so many duplicates? What may come as a surprise to many, there is a small group of Fraternal pin collectors. They will snatch up unusual and often rare specimens for their private collections. While I am glad they don't end up lost, or melted down for their gold value, I really hope they can be enjoyed by Delta Chi's.
Some of the badges are numbered, but you don't know whose they are? For a time the Fraternity received badges from their supplier already numbered, but the numbers did not correspond to the member number. Unfortunately the list of who was matched with who was lost, and without additional clues, many will never be known for their original owner or age.
What do the stars (****) mean? Those are badges that I have personally owned or purchased new. I didn't find them, I bought them from Headquarters or from an authorized merchant. Some of them are my original pins.
What do you plan to do with your collection? It is stipulated in my final wishes that the collection will be given to Delta Chi. So while I enjoy the collection in life, the badges will not be lost on my passing, but rather preserved by the Fraternity to do with as they wish.
Are the pins in any particular order? The first twenty or so are in the order I put them in the box when I started displaying them. The rest are in the order in which I acquired them.
Where do you store the collection? The collection is stored in a safe deposit box at a local bank since my insurance company refused to insure them in my home. I do keep one or two for personal use at my home.
